Night time habits for gorgeous skin

I am sure, Bedtime is something we all look forward to all day.

After a long and tiring day of chores, work and everything in between, it is finally that time when you can shut off your mind and allow your body to recuperate throughout the course of the night.

A good night’s sleep is like eating from the cake of Youth, providing you with a glowing skin next morning!!

Yes, your skin shifts to a recovery mode at the night, regenerating the skin three times faster than during the daytime!

The below mentioned are the best night skin-care practices to help you wake up with your best face forward, the next day morning.

1. Take your makeup off- All of it

Always take off all your makeup before you head towards your bed- do not forget the residue of last nights mascara.

This habit prevents clogged pores and breakouts that may occur from leaving makeup on while you are asleep.

However, even if you do not wear the makeup on, you should never go to bed with an unwashed face,as the impurities on the skin sit on the face causing further clogging of the pores

No Maida noodles

2. Pamper yourself with some extra treatments

Take a relaxing warm water bath, or indulge in a clay-based face mask to draw out any impurities from your day to ensure your skin is clean before bedtime.

Also, you can keep your feet in a bucket containing some warm water and shampoo to give good moisture to your cracked heels and feet.

DO NOT FORGET THE MOISTURIZER

3. Be gentle and soft

Make sure, while removing makeup, you clean your skin gently, with a cleanser and your fingertips or with a soft washcloth.

The main idea of this practice is to remove the bad particles that can be harmful to your skin, also leaving enough of your skin’s natural oils behind.

On the other hand, if you vigorously rub or use too harsh products, you can strip all the oil off your skin, increasing dryness of your skin further.

4. Choose products with anti-ageing ingredients

Using face creams, face wash, moisturizers or night creams with Vitamin C, retinol or peptides can help reverse or prevent the signs of ageing.

Lightly applying Vitamin E oil on face before sleeping also helps nourish the skin.

5. Do not ignore the eye area

The eyelid skin is the thinnest and the most delicate skin and ages the fastest.

After thoroughly washing the face, you can apply Aloe vera gel, almond oil, vitamin E oil or any under eye nourishing cream.

6. Say No to that extra glass of alcohol

Prefer an extra glass of water post the alcoholic drinks to stay hydrated.

Staying hydrated is an important habit of people with great skin.

7. Log on some good quality sleep

Always aim for eight hours of sleep (or enough to wake up energetic next day morning).

Lack of this beauty sleep causes blood cortisol levels to rise up causing a pro-inflammatory state in the skin.

8. Sleep on the back

Sleeping on your back drains away fluid from the facial area making your face look less puffy in the morning.

Also sleeping side ways on the pillow causes those temporary lines to come up on the face.

People who sleep on the stomach, should prefer using satin pillow covers to avoid fine lines.

9. Use at-home light therapy

The red light helps stimulate mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cells, in your skin helping to repair the oxidative damage, thus leading to a firmer skin (Research by Alexander Wunsch and KarstenMatuschka - Photo med Laser Surg.2014 Feb 1;32(2): 93-100).

10. Create a bedtime routine

Having a night-time routine is a form of self-care.

Lighting some candles around, a soothing light music or perhaps some dabbing of lavender oil onto your pillow cases should help you get your beauty sleep.

Try avoiding use of smart phones or any form of artificial lights 1-2 hours before you sleep.

I know its very difficult to do this, but it is required to set our body’s circadian rhythm (body clock). Unlike our smartphones, our mind and body cannot switch on and off so easily-they need time to transit slowly into sleep.

Instead, read your favourite book, indulge in a gentle head massage, cue up your favourite meditation app, drink some herbal teas and diffuse some calming essential oils to help you wind down and catch on some beauty ZZ’s.

11. Bedtime fluids

Do not forget to tank up on healthy fluids or herbal teas like green tea, cinnamon tea, Chamomile tea, Warm kesar milk, Tulsi Honey tea or Hibiscus tea.

12. Massage your worries away

I am pretty sure, you have got shelves and shelves of masks and serums, but the most important thing that you can do for your skin doesn’t come in a bottle or a sachet, Facial rollers and massagers can take your beauty routine to the next level by improving blood circulation.

The Gorgeous bottom line

If you want to wake up to a glowing and a well-rested complexion, you need to prioritize a healthy sleep hygiene.

Always remember, that even the greatest natural skin care products cannot do all the heavy lifting while you sleep.

Hence,  instead of jumping straight to your bed, take some time to incorporate some of these above-mentioned beauty tips to help you get your best beauty sleep.
